Privacy Policy

Perch ("Perch," "we," "us") is a community-driven parking discovery service. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it across both the Perch website (including the early-access waitlist) and the Perch mobile app. It is written for our launch in Metro Manila, Philippines, and reflects our obligations under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173).
1. Information you give us
Depending on how you use Perch, you may provide:
- Waitlist. When you join the waitlist on this website, we collect your email address and the time you signed up.
- Account & onboarding. When you create an app account, we collect a name or nickname, an email address or social login identifier, your mobile number, your age, and your vehicle type and seat capacity. Vehicle details help us match parking suitability.
- Contributions. Parking spots you add or edit, ratings, reviews, comments, and photos you upload, along with the activity needed to operate community moderation (such as your votes and reports).
2. Location data
Location is core to Perch. With your permission, we collect your device's GPS location while you use the app so we can show nearby parking and center the map. If you grant the additional permission, we may also collect location in the background to improve our parking insights.
We use location and the patterns derived from it (such as dwell time and time-of-day activity) to build aggregated heatmaps and "usually busy / usually available" estimates. We do not display your individual location to other users, and we do not sell or share raw, identifiable location data. Any location data used for heatmaps and insights is anonymized and aggregated. You can change or revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings, though some features will stop working without them.
3. Information collected automatically
- Usage and analytics data: app opens, session duration, and map interactions such as zooming, panning, marker taps, and search queries.
- Approximate location derived from your IP address.
- Advertising interaction data, such as which ads were shown and whether they were tapped.
4. How we use your information
- Operate the waitlist and send you product updates, launch announcements, and early-access invites.
- Provide core features: discover, display, rate, and review parking spots.
- Build aggregated heatmaps and availability insights.
- Run community moderation, reputation, and anti-spam systems.
- Measure and improve performance, reliability, and usability.
- Show advertising that keeps Perch free to use.
- Protect against fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms.
5. Legal bases
We process your data based on your consent (for example, joining the waitlist or enabling location), the performance of our service to you, and our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving Perch. You may withdraw consent at any time, as described below.
6. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under appropriate confidentiality and data-protection obligations:
- Database and backend hosting (currently Supabase), which stores waitlist and account data.
- Mapping providers used to render the map.
- Analytics providers used to understand product usage.
- Advertising partners used to deliver and measure ads.
We may also disclose data when required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Perch and our users.
7. Advertising
Perch is free and ad-supported. Advertising partners may use identifiers to deliver and measure ads. We do not provide them with your name, email, mobile number, or raw location for the purpose of selling your data.
8. Data retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above. Waitlist entries are kept until you ask us to remove them or we no longer operate the waitlist. Account and contribution data is kept while your account is active; published contributions may remain visible after account closure in anonymized or attributed form to preserve the integrity of community data.
9. Your rights under the Data Privacy Act
As a data subject under RA 10173, you have the right to:
- Be informed about how your data is processed.
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or outdated data.
- Object to processing, or withdraw consent.
- Request erasure or blocking of your data.
- Obtain a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Lodge a complaint with the National Privacy Commission.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@perch.app. We will delete your waitlist row on request unless we are legally required to retain it.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to limit access to personal data and to keep sensitive keys server-side only.
11. Children
Perch is intended for licensed drivers and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Where your data is stored
Your data may be stored and processed by our service providers on servers located outside the Philippines. Where that happens, we take steps intended to ensure your data continues to be protected consistently with this policy.
13. Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will revise the date above. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or by email so you are not caught off guard.
